The Eddie Smith Field House is Carolina's indoor athletic facility and serves several functions for the Tar Heels.

Opened in 2001, the facility houses the Dick Taylor Track and a six-lane, 200-meter Mondo track.

The facility has hosted several ACC Indoor Track and Field championships and is shared by several Olympic sports for offseason conditioning and coaches' sport camps.

The Eddie Smith Field House includes locker rooms, coaching offices and a 10-by-20 foot scoreboard.

The list of world-class track athletes that hold the facility records at UNC is as impressive as the facilities themselves. The 1996 Olympic gold medalist Allen Johnson holds both the indoor 60-meter hurdles record and the outdoor 110-meter hurdles record. Erin Gilreath broke her own world record in the weight throw during the 2005 indoor season. Tom Pappas, a world champion in the decathlon, holds the indoor pole vault record. Monique Hennagan, a two-time Olympic gold medalist in the 1,600-meter relay, holds the outdoor 400 record. Other Tar Heel Olympians who hold facility records include Shalane Flanagan (indoor mile, indoor 3,000), Crystal Cox (outdoor 200), Joan Nesbit (outdoor 5,000, outdoor 10,000) and Vikas Gowda (indoor shot put, discus).
