The University of North Carolina and Marshall University have signed a contract to play a football game in Chapel Hill in 2000. The game, the first ever between the Tar Heels and the Thundering Herd, is set for September 23, 2000, at Kenan Stadium.
Marshall is undefeated this season and currently is ranked No. 15 in the nation in the Associated Press poll and No. 16 in the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll.
Carolina's other non-conferences games for next season include a September 2 home game against Tulsa and a game (date to be determined) at Pittsburgh.
"We have been working for a while to secure a quality opponent for next season, so it is a bonus to add an outstanding program such as Marshall at this late date," says Athletic Director Dick Baddour. "They have built a Top 25 program and we are excited to have them on our schedule."
The 2000 game is the only meeting included in the contract.
