Women's Golf Ties For 10th In Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - North Carolina's women's golf team tied for 10th place with a 943 total at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Collegiate Championships. Georgia topped the field of 18 teams with a 906 total. Duke finished two strokes back in second place at 908 while Wake Forest finished third at 910, South Carolina placed fourth at 911 and Purdue finished fifth at 919.
Shauna Estes of Georgia captured the individual title defeating Nuria Clau of Wake Forst in a playoff after both players finished with one-over-par 217 totals at the end of regulation play. Celeste Trouche of Auburn finished four strokes back in third place at 221 while a trio of players tied for fourth at 222 - Wake Forest's Maria Beautell, Louisiana State's Lisette Lee and Duke's Candy Hannemann. Jeanne Cho of Florida and Kalen Anderson of Duke finished in seventh place with 226 totals.
Marcy Newton was low for the Tar Heels as she tied for 14th place with a 229 total after rounds of 80-75-74. Abby Spector tied for 45th place at 237 while Heather Angell placed 48th at 238, Beth Lever tied for 60th at 244 and Britta Olson tied for 66th at 246.
The 54-hole event was played at the Gettysvue Polo, Golf & Country Club, which features a par 72, 5,958-yard layout.
