The following are excerpts from head coach Carl Torbush's weekly football press conference:
"I'm very disappointed, very frustrated with the loss last week. Not because of the loss so much as the way we played. I felt like we gave ourselves no chance to win. You can't turn the ball over seven times. We took ourselves out of the ballgame before it really ever started.
"The thing I feel is frustrating is that our players practiced extremely hard and I felt like going into the game that our coaches had a very good game plan. I felt like we were ready to carry out everything that we had worked hard to get done.
"At the beginning of the game we stopped Maryland on three snaps, but we roughed the punter and they were able to convert that to three points. Then before we blinked, we were on the field six offensive snaps, and we were down 17-0. It was not a game that I felt like we played well in any way.
"It was frustrating and the concern for us is that we have not played very well the last two weeks. I base everything we do on improvement and especially with a young football team you should see improvement. And I do not feel that we've improved the last two weeks. A lot of that has to do with certain plays but we've not been able to make the plays that we need to make to give ourselves a chance to win.
"Furman is 6-1. Furman is a very good football team. They are very well coached and always have been. They're going to do exactly what they're supposed to do. They will come in here feeling like they can win this football game. We'll have to play better than we've played the last several weeks to have a chance to win.
"They've got a very intelligent quarterback who does a good job of checking off at the line of scrimmage. They've got a running back that is one of the better running backs we face this year. They're a good, solid defensive football team. I've got a great deal of respect for Furman because they've got a good team."
