UNC's Toepel Repeats As Field Hockey All-American

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - North Carolina junior Jana Toepel has been named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-America first team for the second consecutive season and classmate Kristen McCann has earned third-team honors.
A back from Perkiomenville, Pa., Toepel earned All-ACC and All-ACC Tournament honors in 1999. She started 18 games for the Tar Heels, scoring 19 points on seven goals and five assists. Toepel missed four UNC games in September while competing in Australia as a part of the U.S. National Team.
McCann, a forward from Macungie, Pa., joined Toepel on the All-ACC and All-ACC Tournament squads. She ranked second in scoring for Carolina this season with 31 points on 14 goals and three assists.
Carolina finished the 1999 season 16-6, falling to Iowa 2-0 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Nov. 14. The Tar Heels will return all 11 starters for the 2000 season.
