Carolina Football Schedule Released

Dec. 16, 1999
The University of North Carolina will play host to six home games at Kenan Stadium in 2000, including the season opener on September 2nd against the University of Tulsa.
The Tar Heels open their Atlantic Coast Conference schedule with a pair of road games at Wake Forest (Sept. 9) and Florida State (Sept. 16).
Marshall, undefeated in the regular season in 1999, comes to Chapel Hill on September 23rd for the first of four consecutive home contests. The Tar Heels also play host to Georgia Tech on September 30th, NC State on October 14th and Clemson on October 21st.
Carolina has an open date on October 7th. That weekend is fall break for all UNC students.
The Tar Heels are on the road for three of the final four games. That stretch begins with an October 28th matchup in Charlottesville, Va., against the Virginia Cavaliers. On November 4th, Carolina plays its final non-conference game of the regular season against the University of Pittsburgh. The UNC game against the Panthers is slated for Three Rivers Stadium, home of the Steelers and Pirates.
Maryland concludes the home schedule on November 11th and Carolina travels to Duke on November 18th for the regular-season finale.
"There is no such thing as a perfect schedule," says head coach Carl Torbush, " but this is certainly one we can live with. I would prefer not to open the ACC schedule with two on the road and then play four in a row at home, but everybody has something in their schedule that's difficult. I like the fact we do not have a home game during fall break when our students are not in class. With no game that week, our student-athletes should get a chance to experience a true fall break like the rest of the student body."
This will be the first time UNC has played both Tulsa and Marshall in football. The Tar Heels are 3-2 against Pittsburgh, including a 29-10 win in Chapel Hill in 1998.
This is the first time Carolina has opened its ACC schedule with two road games since 1984.
It is also the first time UNC has played four consecutive games at Kenan Stadium in the same season since 1992. That season is also the last in which the Tar Heels began their ACC slate against Wake Forest.
