Women's Golfers in Fourth After First Round

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The University of North Carolina's women's golf team stands in fourth place after the first round of the ACC Women's Golf Championship. Returning ACC champion Duke leads the pack, and Florida State and Wake Forest are in second and third places, respectively.
Duke's Beth Bauer and Jenny Chuasiriporn are tied for first place with Florida State's Amy Bond. All three shot a one-under 71. Heather Angell is leading the way for North Carolina with a four-over 76, which positions her in ninth place. Carolina's Marcy Newton, Cuyler Buckles, Shelley McKevitt and Beth Lever are all tied for 13th place after shooting 79's.
Duke University is out to defend its long-standing title this weekend. Duke won the tournament in 1996, 1997 and 1998.
The event is being played at the Grandover East golf course in Greensboro, N.C., which features a par 72, 5,950-yard layout. The tournament continues through Sunday.
