The Tar Heels will play host to that third round game either November 20, 21 or 22. UNC will play the winner of the second round game between Maryland and William & Mary. That game is being played Sunday at Newport News, Va. The date of the game and the time will be set on Monday. The Tar Heels dominated Saturday's game from start to finish, outshooting the 49ers 29-3 as UNC improved to 22-0 on the season. UNC-Charlotte ended its 1998 campaign with a mark of 15-6-3.
North Carolina senior forward Cindy Parlow (Memphis, Tenn.) scored her 21st goal of the season early in the second half and in the process she became the seventh highest goal scorer in UNC women's soccer history. It was the 68th goal of Parlow's illustrious Carolina career and it moved her into seventh place, passing Debbie Keller (1993-96), who scored 67 goals in her career. Parlow also had an assist in the game, giving her 188 points in her career, one behind Tisha Venturini (1991-94), who ranks seventh on the Tar Heels' all-time scoring chart. It was Carolina's balanced scoring attack which ended up wearing down the 49ers. UNC had six different players score its goals and it had seven different players record assists.
The Tar Heels struck early as Carolina scored at 2:58 with sophomore forward Raven McDonald scoring on a rebound after senior midfielder Tiffany Roberts' initial shot hit the cross bar. At the 21:35 mark, Roberts scored a goal of her own on a give-and-go play with sophomore forward Meredith Florance. Then, just before halftime, UNC struck again as junior defender Lindsay Stoecker scored at 41:09 on a header off a flick by sophomore midfielder Jena Kluegel after a corner kick by junior midfielder Rebekah McDowell. The Tar Heels went on to score three more times in the second half. Parlow scored 1:02 into the second half on a header from 10 yards, assisted by Kluegel. At 55:54, Florance scored on a shot in the left side of the box, assisted by Parlow. The Tar Heels finished off the scoring at 65:57 as freshman forward Anne Remy scored assisted by senior forward Rakel Karvelsson and sophomore defender Tina Murphy after a series of pass in the UNC-Charlotte penalty box.
Carolina had 29 shots and 13 corner kicks in the game, both season high for UNC-Charlotte opponents. Jessica Brooks had a career high 11 saves for the 49ers.

QUOTES FROM UNC-CHARLOTTE
Head Coach Robbie Church:
"What a great team (Carolina), program, tradition." "We were very successful in our conference but this was a good opportunity for our girls to step up and play on another level. It was simply a learning experience."
"To win in the south, we realize that we have to come through Chapel Hill each year. We will just keep trying each year." "They have the top players in the nation, a great team system that plays us and everybody else as if they were playing Notre Dame each game."
"To beat this team, you have to take them out of their rhythm. But they're so confident that it's hard to do this. It'll be interesting to see if anybody can do this in the tournament. You must match them athlete for athlete which is so difficult because they have eleven of them on the field at all times."
"We can take a lot of positives out of this game. We just want to be good nationally and to get there we have to look at this game and see that we have some work to do in the future."
Defender Stacy Weaver
"I'm not disappointed with what happened. Our goal this year was to get here, and we have worked really hard all year, and I feel that we gave a good effort."
"I just look at them (Carolina) as another team. I had no doubts that we couldn't come in and be successful."
"I felt that our intensity fell after the third goal. It would come back in spurts but there just wasn't enough."
Goalkeeper Jessica Brooks
"The difference with Carolina from all other teams is that every little thing they did, there would be three or four of them around the ball at all times. Their work ethic is extremely impressive." "In the first half, I felt that we were on our heels, maybe even scared or just in awe. We didn't really know how to prepare for a game like this.
QUOTES FROM NORTH CAROLINA
Head Coach Anson Dorrance:
"The whole aim in the NCAAs is to advance without injury. We did that today, and I got to play my whole roster, which is good for morale."
"UNCC is a good team and an up-and-coming program. We played well against them, and I like the variety of goals that we had."
"What happens in the NCAA is that you don't know what you will have to do to win. You have to be firing on all cylinders in all aspects of your game."
On the amount of teams in the NCAAs: "I love the expanded bracket. It tells the kids and the athletic directors that women's soccer is growing."
UNC Senior Midfielder Tiffany Roberts:
"We left everything on the field, had a lot of energy and a variety of scoring. Hopefully, we'll just get better." "This is the strongest team since I've been on since I've been here. The chemistry is awesome. We're playing for each other out there."
