Gymnastics Take Second at George Washington Invitational

Washington, D.C. - The University of North Carolina Gymnastics team placed second out of six teams with a score of 189.475 at the George Washington Invitational this weekend. Maryland edged out the Heels for first place, finishing with a total of 189.825.
Carolina sophomore Brooke Wilson dominated the meet finishing with two first place finishes on the balance beam and floor and two second place finishes on the vault and uneven bars. The performance was enough for Wilson to claim the all-around title at the meet and a new school all-around record score of 38.950.
Carolina Freshman Monica Middleton finished third in the all-around with a final score of 38.050. Other strong Carolina performances were turned in by senior Jen DeLuca, who placed fourth on vault, and senior Shelley Austin who finished tied with Wilson for second on uneven bars.
Maryland edged out the Tar Heels led by strong performances from freshmen Kit Johnson, Lisa Mealey and Gillian Cote.
The Tar Heels are in action this Saturday as they prepare to host their first home meet of the season against Radford at 7:00 p.m. All home meets are in Carmichael Auditorium.
