Notes From The N.C. State Game

Saturday's win, UNC's sixth consecutive over N.C. State, gives Carolina a 58-24-6 alltime advantage over State.

Carolina has now won 19 straight games over in-state ACC opponents.

This is the 9th consecutive year the Heels have posted a winning record, matching the alltime record set in 1905.

Carl Torbush becomes the first Tar Heel head coach to post a winning record in his first season since Tom Young's squad went 6-3 in 1943.

Dre' Bly's second quarter interception was the 20th of his career, extending his ACC record.

Na Brown's eight receptions give him 55 for the season, matching the school record he set last season. Brown now has three straight seasons with over 50 receptions.

L.C. Stevens had five catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns, both in the second quarter.

Torry Holt finished the game with nine catches for 180 yards, giving him 3.379career receiving yards for a new ACC record. Duke's Clarkson Hines had the previous mark of 3,318 yards.

Kory Bailey's six catches gave him 38 receptions for the season, setting a new single-season record for a Tar Heel freshman. Durham's Randell Felton had the previous record with 37.

Linebacker Brandon Spoon had a game-high 11 tackles, including a key stop on a second-quarter fourth down play that gave UNC the ball at midfield. The Heels scored on the next play on a 49-yard Davenport to L.C. Steven's bomb.

Davenport was 19-33 passing for 213 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Jamie Barnette was 18-44 passing for 291 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.

N.C. State had five turnovers to none for UNC. This was only the second time this season that State failed to force a turnover.

Carolina finishes the season at 6-5 (5-3 ACC). State ends up at 7-4 (5-3 ACC). The teams tied for fourth in the ACC.

This was the first overtime game Carolina has ever played.

The last regular-season game UNC played at a neutral site was a 1993 win over Southern California in Anaheim, Calif. Prior to that game, the last neutral site regular-season game was a 1976 matchup against Florida in Tampa, Fla.

The last time Carolina played in Charlotte was in 1942, when the Heels posted a 43-14 win over Davidson. Carolina is now 14-2-2 in games played in Charlotte.

The Ericsson Stadium crowd of 68,797 is the largest to ever see a college game in North Carolina.

Carolina's balanced-attack netted 432 yard of total offense. The Heels gained 197 yards on 45 rushes (4.38 yards per carry) and 235 yards through the air on 20 completions (11.75 yards per catch).

The Tar Heels were penalized just three times for 15 yards. State had four penalties for 38 yards.
