Tar Heels Begin Indoor Track Season at Home

Chapel Hill, N.C. ----- The University of North Carolina track and field team will play host to the season-opening Joe Hilton Invitational on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 15-16 at the Carolina indoor facility. The indoor facility, informally known as the "Tin Can" is located just behind the UNC Law School on Ridge Road.
Friday night*s competition begins at 6 p.m. and includes all the field events. The sprint and middle distance events will start on Saturday at 10 a.m. and should conclude around 1:30 p.m.
Several national and world class athletes will be competing in the meet, including: Melissa Morrison - ranked No. 3 in 100 meter hurdles; Roland McGhee * 1997 World and U.S. national champion in the long jump; Gillian Russell * ranked No. 4 in the world in the 100 meter hurdles. Other top competitors include Anjanette Kirkland (60m hurdles), Steve Brown (top Trinidad hurdler), Dwayne Ross (60m hurdles) and Terry Reese (60m hurdles) and former U.S. indoor champion Roland Evans (60m hurdles). Former Tar Heels* LaTasha Colander (60m, 60m hurdles), Nadine Faustin (60m, 60m hurdles) and Tony McCall (60m) will also compete.
Teams scheduled to compete include: North Carolina, Campbell, Charleston Southern, East Carolina, Livingstone, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina Central, Radford, Shaw, St. Augustine*s, South Carolina and Winthrop.
