CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Brooke Crawford and Meghann Mohler of the 1999 University of North Carolina women's lacrosse team were named Thursday to the 1999 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association All-America Team.
Crawford was named to the first team All-America squad for the second successive year. She was one of only four players nationwide to repeat on the first team. Mohler earned her first-ever All-America recognition by being tapped for the second team.
Crawford was the outstanding player on a Tar Heel defense which was one of the nation's best in 1999. The senior from Malvern, Pa. spearheaded a veteran defensive corps that allowed only 108 goals in 15 games and was touched for more than eight goals only twice during the season. She led the Heels in turnovers caused and minutes played this season.
Mohler, a junior from Baltimore, Md., exploded offensively this season and was the team's leading scorer. She led Carolina in goals scored with 25, in points with 40 and she was second in assists with 15. She also led Carolina in draw controls won with 43 and was among the team leaders in minutes played with 851 and in ground balls with 33.
