Sunday's action: The Wake Forest Demon Deacons (39-13, 16-7) take an eight-game
winning streak into the ACC Tournament following a 4-0 win over the Maryland Terrapins
(21-31, 6-17) at College Park, Md. Scott Siemon (11-1) got the win by hurling eight scoreless
innings. Siemon is tied with fellow Deacon Mike MacDougal for the ACC lead in wins.
Jamie Hammond (4-4) took the loss after giving up three runs in 7.0 innings.
Andrew Riepe had a double and two RBI to lead the Wake Forest offense...
Regular-season champion Florida St. (46-10, 22-2) took an easy 7-0 win over
Duke (24-30, 4-18) at Jack Combs Field in Durham, N.C. Mike Smalley (4-0) got
the win after pitching five scoreless innings. Duke starter Brad Dupree (3-7) gave up six runs on 8 hits
in 4.2 innnings to take the loss...
Virginia's (20-33, 8-15) Mark Rueffert singled in the winning run with one out in
the bottom of the ninth as the Wahoos took a 5-4 win over James Madison (21-33)
at Charlottesville, Va. Rueffert's single drove in Tim LaVigne with the winning run.
LaVigne (2-3) also picked up the win by tossing a scoreless ninth inning in relief.
LaVigne, who played shortstop the first eight innings, was 3-4 with one RBI...
Clemson (34-22, 13-10) took third place in the ACC with a 7-4 win over
N.C. State (35-21, 11-13) at Doak Field in Raleigh, N.C. TarHeelblue.com will have

Saturday's action: The N.C. State Wolfpack (35-20, 11-12) swept a doubleheader
from the Clemson Tigers (33-22, 12-10) at Doak Field in Raleigh, N.C. State took
the opener 19-9, then held on to take a 7-4 win in the nightcap. In the first game State scored
five runs in each of the first three innings to overcome seven Clemson runs in the second
inning. Josh Schmitt went 3-5 with five RBI and a homer, and Mike Sollie (4-0) got the
win in relief by giving up just one earned run in 7.2 innings. Mike Paradis (6-1) took the
loss after giving up five runs in 1/3 of an inning on the mound. In the second game
Dan Mooney was 2-4 with three RBI and Brian Wright was 2-5 with a double and two RBI to
lead the Pack's attack. Rodney Ormond (6-5) got the win by giving up three runs in 6.0 innings,
while Ryan Mottl (3-6) took the loss for Clemson. Dustin Baker got his first save of the
season for State...
Florida St. (21-2, 45-10) set the ACC record for most conference wins in a season
while taking a doubleheader from Duke (24-29, 4-17) at Durham, N.C. The Clemson
Tigers won 20 ACC games in both 1994 and 1995. FSU took the opener 11-3 and the second game
9-1. Both games were seven-inning affairs. Blair Varnes (9-1) got the victory in the first
game after giving up two earned runs in 6.0 innnings. Mike Futrell was 4-4 with a double,
while Marshall McDougall was 2-3 with a double and an RBI. Nick Stocks (10-1) got the win
in the second game by pitching 5.2 scoreless innngs. McDougall was 3-4 with two RBI, with
DH Sam Smith going 2-3 with an RBI and one run scored...
Wake Forest (38-13, 15-7) clinched second place in the ACC with a 9-4 win over
Maryland (21-30, 6-16) at Shipley Field in College Park, Md. Mike MacDougal (11-2) tossed
seven scoreless innings to get the win. MacDougal leads the ACC in victories. Fred Weaver (1-4)
gave up eight runs in 3.2 while absorbing the loss. Jon Palmieri was 3-5 with two
doubles and an RBI as every Deacon starter had at least one hit. Maryland got a three-run
triple from Eric Beer in the eighth inning...
Virginia (20-33, 8-15) got a career-high six RBI from Jon Benick in a 13-2 win over
James Madison (21-32) at Harrisonburg, Va. Benick had a three-run homer, two doubles
and a single. Casey Kennedy (4-5) got the win after pitching three scoreless innings as
UVA's starter.
Friday's action: Wake Forest's (37-13, 14-7) Jon Palmieri had a record-setting
day at the plate as the Deacons posted a 16-7 win over Maryland (21-29, 6-15) at
College Park, Md. Palmieri, 3-5 for the day with a homer and three RBI, became Wake's all-time
hits leader with 320. The big first baseman also set the new Wake Forest single-season record
for RBI with 80. Every Deacon starter had at least one hit, and the Deacs belted five home
runs. John Hendricks (8-5) got the win by giving up three runs in 7.0 innings, while
Tom Curtis (2-6) suffered the loss. Danny Borrell, Jason Aquilante, Chase Voshell and
Andrew Riepe also homered for Wake Forest...
Clemson (33-20, 12-8) leads N.C. State (33-20, 9-12) 7-5 in a game suspended in
the bottom of the second inning. The game will resume at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, followed by
a second game at 7:00 p.m...
Florida St. (43-10, 19-2) and Duke (24-27, 4-15) were rained out, setting up
a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m...
The Virginia (19-33, 8-15) vs. VMI game was cancelled due to rain.
Thursday's action: No games were scheduled.
Wednesday's action: Georgia Tech (35-17, 10-11) rallied for three runs in the
top of the ninth to top Georgia (25-27) 11-10 at Foley Field in Athens, Ga.
Tech trailed 9-8 in the ninth before Stephen Donaghey's two-out, two-run homer put Tech up
by one. Eric McQueen then homered for an 11-9 lead. Georgia rallied for a run in the bottom
of the ninth and had a runner on second with one out, but reliever Chuck Crowder got the
final two outs. Jesse Thompson (1-0) got his first collegiate win in two innings of relief,
while Barry Fowler (5-3) took the loss in relief...
Wake Forest's (36-13, 13-7) Danny Borrell had two home runs and eight RBI to lead
the Deacons to an easy 21-5 win over Liberty (24-26) at Worthington Stadium
in Lynchburg, Va. Jon Palmieri, who was 3-3 with four RBI, set a new Wake Forest career-record
for runs scored with 214. Matt Briggs (4-0) got the win after giving up two runs in
seven innings, while Liberty starter Anthony Pennix (3-1) absorbed the loss after lasting
just 3.2 innnings...
James Madison (21-30) scored six runs in the fourth inning on the way to a 10-5
win over Maryland (21-28, 6-14) at College Park, Md. Nic Herr (2-5) got the win
with eight innnings of work, with Terp's starter Fred Weaver (1-3) suffering the loss.
Gregg Miller and Bryan Johnson homered for James Madison.
Tuesday's action: Wake Forest's (35-13, 13-7) Jon Palmieri continued his
torrid hitting with three hits and five RBI as Wake took a 17-10 win over
Old Dominion (34-15) at Hooks Field in Winston-Salem, N.C. Scott Siemon (10-1)
picked up the win by giving up eight runs in 7.0 inninings while striking out seven.
Siemon and teammate Mike MacDougal are tied for the ACC lead in wins with ten each.
Palmieri's homer was his 16th of the season, and nine Deacon batters had at least on hit
apiece. Louis Mazzante (4-2) suffered the loss by giving up five first inning runs without
recording an out...
Georgia Tech (34-17, 10-11) won a 15-12 slugfest from Mercer (32-21) at
Claude Smith Field in Macon, Ga. Stephen Donaghey and Bryan Prince had five RBI apiece
for Tech, with Donaghey going 4-5. Andy Mitchell (2-0) got the win in 6.1 innings of
relief, while Matt Parker (6-6) took the loss in relief. Mark Teixeira belted his 11th homer
of the season for Tech...
South Carolina (34-19) used a 17-hit offensive attack to post an 11-6 win over
Duke (24-27, 4-15) at Columbia, S.C. Lee Gronkiewicz (1-1) picked up the win
in relief, while Duke starter Stephen Cowie (8-8) absorbed the loss. Brian Roberts had
two doubles and a stolen base for USC. Roberts leads the NCAA in steals with 67.
Monday's action: Wake Forest's (34-13, 13-7) Mike MacDougal (10-2) struck
out a career-high 12 hitters and Jon Palmieri (4-6) drove in seven runs to lead the
Demon Deacons to a 16-4 win over UNC-Asheville (19-37) at Winston-Salem, N.C.
MacDougal is now the first ACC pitcher to reach the 10-victory mark this season.
Palmieri blasted his 15th homer of the season to go along with a double, while
Scott Daeley was 4-4 and Andrew Riepe went 4-5 with five RBI. Eddie Woods (4-11) suffered
the loss for the Bulldogs.
