CHAPEL HILL --- The University of North Carolina and Furman University have agreed to a one-year contract to play football on October 30, 1999, in Kenan Stadium. Gametime will be established at a later date.
"I appreciate athletic director John Block contacting us about Furman's willingness to play this season on such short notice," says UNC athletics director Dick Baddour. "Furman's football program has outstanding tradition.
"I do regret changing the date of the game from September 18th to October 30th because I know people plan events around the University's calendar. I believe they will understand the unique circumstances we faced and limited options we had in making this change."
This will be the fifth meeting in football between Carolina and Furman. The Tar Heels have won the first four games, including a 28-0 decision in Chapel Hill in 1992.
The Tar Heels were forced to find an opponent in mid-January when Kent State decided not to play Carolina.
