Place-Kicker McGee Injures Knee

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of North Carolina place-kicker Josh McGee sprained the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee Monday and is questionable for next Saturdays game at Wake Forest.
McGee, a junior from Pearl, Miss., sprained his knee while playing touch football with friends on Carolinas off day from practice. McGee has been Carolinas starting kicker, handling field goals and extra point tries, for each of the past three seasons. He currently leads the team in scoring with 29 points. He has made five of six field goal attempts and all 14 extra point tries this season. In his career, McGee is 26 for 39 in field goals and has 162 points. He is tied with Ethan Horton for 13th place alltime in UNC scoring. He is sixth in scoring at UNC among place-kickers.
rian Schmitz, a junior, will be the Tar Heels kicker if necessary. Schmitz already handles kickoff and punts for Carolina. The last player to handle all three kicking duties was Scott Caparelli in 1995.
