CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - University of North Carolina junior offensive guard Joe Ellison may be cleared to play in Saturday's game against Pittsburgh according to UNC trainer Dr. Dan Hooker. Yesterday, doctors believed Ellison may miss three to four weeks with a hairline fracture in his left fibula. Hooker said today Ellison will be evaluated before the game and a decision will be made at that time as to whether the Winston-Salem, N.C., native will be cleared to play in the 1:30 p.m. contest.
Ellison's injury originally occured in the Clemson game, not in pregame warmups as was released Thursday. He re-aggravated the injury in pre-practice warmups on Thursday and a second set of x-rays revealed the small fracture.
