Look For Traffic Delays On Football Saturdays
August 26, 1999 | Football
Aug. 26, 1999
The Department of Public Safety stated that motorists arriving
on campus for UNC Football home games this Autumn should expect
heavier-than-usual traffic congestion and some delays along Manning
Drive due to the ongoing steamline construction project in that area.
Motorists may avoid some delays by arriving on campus early for
UNC Football's Tar Heel Town pre-game festivities, beginning in front of
Wilson Library 2 1/2 hours prior to home games.
Football fans may also wish to avoid campus traffic by taking
advantage of Chapel Hill Transit's convenient park and ride
transportation, with $4.00 round-trip service to from the following
locations:
Trips to campus begin 2 hours prior to game time from Route 54
East and the University Mall and 1 1/2 hours prior to the kick-off from
Southern Village and Carrboro Plaza. Return trips begin immediately
after each event and continue for approximately 30 minutes. For further
information on Chapel Hill Transit's game day Tar Heel Express Services,
please call 968 - 2769.
Educational Foundation members are encouraged to avoid left
turns off of Manning Drive into the Craige Parking Deck facility.
Access to Educational Foundation reserved parking in the Dogwood Deck
(the new Health Affairs II Parking Deck) can be best accessed via Mason
Farm Road by way of South Columbia Street.
Likewise, those seeking public game parking in the Cardinal Deck
(Health Affairs Parking Deck I) may access that area via Mason Farm Road
as well. Additionally, persons seeking general public parking in
non-reserved north campus lots are advised to avoid Manning Drive
(specifically the Manning Drive / Ridge Road intersection and portions
of Manning Drive between the Craige Deck and East Drive).
For further information on UNC Football home game day parking,
please call the Department of Public Safety at 962 - 3951, the Special
Events 24-hour Information hotline at 558 - 5961, or to tune into
Information System radio broadcasts at 1610 AM on game days.
