The athletics department is asking spectators attending Saturday's football game versus Florida St. to bring non-perishable foodstuffs to aid hurricane victims.
The food will be collected by volunteers at Gates 2 and 6, the main gates at the 50-yard lines behind the press box and Pope Stadium Box.
Volunteers will include representatives from Carolina student body and UNC student-athletes. The food will be delivered to the North Carolina Food Bank. Volunteers will also be accepting financial contributions at Gates 2 and 6.
"The people in eastern North Carolina are hurting and we feel this is one way people from all over our great state may lend a helping hand," says athletic director Dick Baddour. "Virtually everyone in our University community knows someone who has been directly affected by this disaster, including many members of our football team. Those of us who were fortunate enough to have not been seriously impacted by "Floyd" can make a positive contribution to those that were."
Head coach Carl Torbush has taped a public address announcement that will be played before the game encouraging contributions.
