Men's Soccer Runs Past Campbell, 5-0

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Sophomore forward Chris Carrieri scored twice to lead North Carolina to a 5-0 men's soccer victory over Campbell University on Wednesday night at the Eakes Athletic Complex.
Carrieri notched the game's first goal just 4:50 into the contest, when he settled a serve from Joey DiSalvo (who had two assists) at the top of the box and beat Camel keeper Phillip Hatcher.
Just over 10 minutes later, Noz Yamauchi hit a dipping shot from outside the area that bounded off Hatcher and into the net for a 2-0 UNC lead.
The Tar Heels stretched the advantage to three in the 19th minute when Hatcher stopped DiSalvo's penalty kick, but Michael Gell pounced on the rebound and scored into an empty net.
UNC led 4-0 at the half when Ryan Kneipper stole the ball in the Camel end and slotted a pass to Matt Laycock, who scored in the 40th minute.
Carrieri put UNC in front by five on a low liner in the 50th minute that beat CU reserve keeper Eric Swalwell inside the left post.
North Carolina held a 16-9 advantage on shots and an 8-2 edge in corner kicks. Campbell's best scoring chances came midway through the first half when Otis Burris broke free in the box, but Carolina keeper Michael Ueltschey steered the shot by the right post. In the second period, Krzysztof Mroczek broke free, but missed just left of Ueltschey's net.
UNC improved to 2-1 on the season, while Campbell, which hosts Division II UNC Pembroke on Saturday at 7:00 p.m., fell to 0-3 following previous losses to UNC Greensboro and UNC Charlotte.
