University of North Carolina alumni Dre' Bly, Nate Hobgood-Chittick and Mike Morton became Super Bowl champions Sunday when the St. Louis Rams defeated the Tennessee Titans, 23-16, in Super Bowl XXXIV in Atlanta.
ly, a cornerback from Chesapeake, Va., played his final year at UNC in 1998. He is the only three-time first-team All-America in Atlantic Coast Conference history and is the leading interceptor in league history.
Hobgood-Chittick, amazingly, never started a game in his Carolina career at defensive tackle, but was an outstanding contributor off the bench and with his great team leadership. The Allentown, Pa., native signed as a free agent with the New York Giants after his final year in Chapel Hill in 1997. He played earlier this year with the Indianapolis Colts.
Morton, a Morehead Scholar from Kannapolis, N.C., played his final game at UNC in 1994. He led UNC to three straight postseason games and was one of Carl Torbush's many former linebackers to play in the National Football League. He co-captained the Tar Heels in their Sun Bowl season in 1994.
