Florida State Upsets #2 Women's Socer, 3-2

TALLAHASSEE, FLA. - An unassisted goal by defender Kristin Boyce with 6:58 left in the second overtime lifted 23rd-ranked Florida State to a 3-2 overtime victory over second-ranked North Carolina before at crowd of 1,582 Tuesday night at the Seminole Soccer Complex.
The loss dropped UNC to 12-2-0 overall this year and 3-2-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Seminoles, who beat the Tar Heels for the first time in history, improved to 11-4-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the ACC. The loss was only the third time in history that Carolina has lost an ACC game. The Tar Heels were defeated by Duke 3-2 on October 19, 1994 in Chapel Hill and also lost 2-1 to Clemson on September 13, 2000 in Clemson, S.C.
Prior to Tuesday night, Carolina had never lost two ACC games in the same season in history. It is also only the sixth time in school history that the Tar Heels have lost twice in the same season.
UNC dominated the game statistically against the Seminoles with 22 shots to nine for FSU and 13 corner kicks to two for Florida State. But the Seminoles took advantage of their opportunities to claim the win.
UNC's Meredith Florance put the Tar Heels ahead at the 12:12 mark as she scored on an assist by Maggie Tomecka. Just over two minutes later Florida State tied the game as Marte Vik Edvardson scored on a penalty kick past UNC starting goalkeeper Kristin DePlatchett.
The Seminoles went ahead in the game at the 78:46 mark as forward Cindy Schofield beat UNC goalie Jenni Branam, who had entered the game at halftime. April Murphy and Rachael Watkin assisted on the goal.
Florance forced the game into overtime with 5:01 to play in regulation as she scored off an assist by Kim Patrick. Boyce then scored the game winner for the Seminoles at the 113:01 mark.
Sarah Crawford made four saves for Florida State and the Seminoles were also credited with two defensive saves. DePlatchett had two saves for UNC in the first half.
The Tar Heels had 15 fouls in the game to 11 for FSU. Florida State had five offsides and North Carolina zero.
