Sophomore punter John Lafferty, who started Carolina's last two games against NC State and Clemson, has been diagnosed with mononucleosis and will miss 3-4 weeks, Head Coach Carl Torbush announced on Monday.
"He will most likely miss the rest of the regular-season," said Torbush. "It's sad to see that happen to him because he's done some good things for us in the last two games. He's a valuable member of our football team and hopefully he will have a quick recovery."
Lafferty, a walk-on from Valdese, N.C., has punted 20 times this season for 708 yards, an average of 35.4 yards per punt.
Freshman Blake Ferguson, who started the first five games of the year at punter, will start at Virginia on Saturday. Ferguson is averaging 39.1 yards per punt on 18 kicks this season.
