UNC coach Carl Torbush met with the media Tueday afternoon for his weekly press conference at the Kenan Football Center. Here's some of what he had to say:
On the Virginia game:
"It's another frustrating loss. It's four in a row where we've had every opportunity to win and we have not been able to get it done. On the stat sheet, we won all the stats. But the stats are not important because the only stat that matters is the W or the L, and we got the L and Virginia got the W."
On the offense:
"I thought offensively we moved the ball well between the 30s, but when we had the opportunity to get the ball in the end zone for points we were not able to do that. There's no question that the two field goal attempts, the interception in the end zone and then the fumble on the 35 (yard line) probably caused the final outcome of the game.
"I thought Willie Parker stepped up and showed some things that we had seen in the spring and early fall.
"We had some good catches, but I thought we had four or five catchable balls that we were not able to make that could have been big plays in the ballgame.
"I do feel like the offensive line has made a great deal of improvement."
On the defense:
"Overall we probably played as well as we could. I think they had 10 possessions and seven of those were three-and-outs. Any time you can hold a Virginia offense to that, you feel like you've been successful. At the same time, the sad scenario is that the only time they moved the football was on their scoring drives. They had one (drive) of 70 (yards) and one (drive) of 80 (yards) and both of them had big plays within them that led to points.
"There were six or eight plays that were game changers that we didn't make when we had the opportunity to make them. Therefore we're sitting here at 3-5. That's what we've done for the last four weeks."
On Pittsburgh:
"We're getting ready to play a really good football team in Pittsburgh this week.
Their quarterback (John Turman) is an outstanding player -- a guy that's got a big league arm. I'll be shocked if one of these days, he doesn't have a shot at professional football.
"Without a doubt, they've got two outstanding receivers in Antonio Bryant, who is leading the nation (in yardage) right now, and Latef Grim.
"We're getting ready to play a team that could be undefeated. Both games they lost, to Syracuse and Virginia Tech, they had opportunities to win."
