Carolina Volleyball Finishes The Regular Season As ACC Co-Champions

ATLANTA, G.A.-- The North Carolina Tar Heels lost a tight five-game match (11-15, 15-13, 17-15, 11-15, 13-15) to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets Saturday night. Both the Tar Heels and the Yellow Jackets entered their final game before the ACC Tournament with a 13-2 record in conference play. The loss leaves UNC with a 23-7 season record and gives Georgia Tech the top seed in next weekend's tournament.
Freshman Nicole Reis led the Tar Heels to the end with 30 kills, 21 digs and five block assists. Teammate Casey Simpson followed with 28 kills and 19 digs while Krista Buckholz notched 24 kills and 11 block assists. Eve Rackham tallied 94 assists and 13 digs in the match as well.
Elda Mabry helped the Yellow Jackets hold the lead with 27 kills and six block assists. Maja Pachale chipped in 23 kills, 20 digs and four block assists.
y virtue of a tie-breaker with the Tar Heels, Georgia Tech will enter the ACC Tournament as the number one seed. The two teams each split their matches earlier in the season, with each team winning in five games, so the next tie breaker is games won and lost within the conference. UNC had 44 wins and 26 losses while Georgia Tech recorded 44 wins and 17 losses during the conference season.
The ACC Tournament will begin on Thursday, Nov. 16 and run through Sunday, Nov. 19.
