UNC Women Advance To Volleyball Semis With Win Over Terps

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The No. 2 seeded North Carolina Tar Heels defeated the No. 8 seeded Maryland Terrapins in four games to advance to the semifinals of the 2000 Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Championship held on the campus of Wake Forest University. The Tar Heels defeated the Terps 12-15, 15-5, 15-6 and 15-7 improving their record to 24-7 while Maryland dropped to 14-16 on the season.
Pacing North Carolina was sophomore outside hitter Laura Greene who recorded a match-high 19 kills along with ten digs and a .302 hitting percentage. Sophomore setter Eve Rackham tallied 63 assists in the contest while picking up a match-high 20 digs from the setter position. As a team, the Tar Heels finished the contest with 77 kills, 94 digs, 26 total blocks and a .240 hitting percentage.
For the Terps, sophomore outside hitter Carey Brennan knocked down a team-high 17 kills as well as recording 18 digs. Running the Maryland offense was sophomore setter Lindsay Davey who finished the match with 57 assists and nine digs. The Terrapins had 63 kills, 84 digs, 11 total blocks and a .123 hitting percentage in the four game match.
North Carolina advances to Saturday's semifinal match and will face the winner of tonight's match between No. 3 Wake Forest and No. 6 Virginia. Saturday's match will be played at 7:00 pm.
