
Carolina Volleyball Falls To Notre Dame

South Bend, Ind.--The University of North Carolina fell to 23rd ranked Notre Dame 6-15, 13-15, 4-15 Saturday (Nov.4) night at the Joyce Center. Notre Dame moves to 20-5, 9-0 in the Big East outhitting UNC .349 to .135. Carolina is 22-6 and 12-2 in the ACC.
Nicole Reis led the Heels with 11 kills and eight digs. Laura Greene posted 10 kills and five digs and Casey Simpson had eight kills. Krista Buchholz chipped in four block assists and six kills.
Notre Dame jumped to an early 11-1 lead in game one with the Irish defense holding the Heels a .139 hitting percentage. They would go on to take the game 15-6. In game two, the teams rallied back and forth until the Irish jumped ahead 12-6. North Carolina battled back to tie the match 13-13. Notre Dame held on to take the game, 15-13. The Irish jumped out to an early lead in game three, holding the Heels to at total four points, 15-4.
Notre Dame was led by Christi Girton and Marcie Bomhack who combined for 33 kills. Denise Boylan tallied a match-high 41 assists and nine digs.
Carolina will be back in action on Tuesday (Nov. 7) when the Tar Heels travel to South Carolina to face ACC foe Clemson.
