Willie Parker and Jeff Reed earned Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week honors on Monday for their performances in the Tar Heels' 20-17 victory over Pittsburgh.
Parker started his first game of the season at Pitt and responded with 61 yards rushing and 56 yards receiving. He scored Carolina's first touchdown on an 8-yard run and set up another with two long plays. On UNC's 98-yard touchdown drive in the fourth quarter, Parker had a 25-yard run and caught two passes of 34 and 11 yards.
Reed was perfect in all aspects of the kicking game against the Panthers. The Charlotte native made good on field goals of 33 and 32 yards and both point after attempts and had touchbacks on all five kickoffs. Reed is now 13 of 17 in field goal attempts, 21 of 21 in PATs and has scored 60 points. He is ninth in the nation with 1.44 field goals per game.
Reed is one of 20 candidates for the Lou Groza Award given to the nation's best place-kicker.
