Twelve UNC Players Taken In Initial WUSA Draft

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Twelve former University of North Carolina women's soccer players were selected Sunday and Monday in the initial draft of the Women's United Soccer Association, which commences play in April. These 12 draftees join the nine assigned National Team players who graduated from Carolina and who were dispersed to the league teams earlier.
Over the past two days the following Carolina players were drafted by the WUSA:

The UNC players who were dispersed in the previous National Team assignment pool include Lorrie Fair of the Philadelphia Charge, Tracy Ducar of the Boston Breakers, Mia Hamm of the Washington Freedom, Siri Mullinix of the Washington Freedom, Cindy Parlow of the Atlanta Beat, Tiffany Roberts of the Carolina Tempest, Carla Overbeck of the Carolina Tempest, Tisha Venturini of the Bay Area Cyber Rays and Kristine Lilly of the Boston Breakers.
Additionally UNC alumnae Marcia McDermott and Laurie Gregg are key parts of the new league. McDermott has been chosen as the head coach of the Carolina Tempest and Gregg is working in the WUSA front office.
