Bolowich Named NSCAA/adidas Regional Coach of the Year

Chapel Hill, N.C. - University of North Carolina men's soccer head coach Elmar Bolowich was named the NSCAA/adidas South Region Coach of the Year for the first time in his 12-year coaching career, the NSCAA announced this week. Former Carolina men's coach and current women's head coach Anson Dorrance earned the same honor in 1987 after leading the Tar Heels to the NCAA Final Four.
olowich was one of two Atlantic Coast Conference coaches to be honored. Joining him was South Atlantic Region Coach of the Year George Gelnovatch of Virginia.
olowich led the Tar Heels to perhaps its finest season ever in men's soccer in 2000. The Tar Heels set school records with 21 wins on the season, 15 straight wins and five ACC wins. Carolina finished its 2000 campaign with a record of 21-3, 5-1 in the ACC. UNC won the ACC Tournament for the first time since 1987 and reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament before losing to two-time defending national champion Indiana, 1-0, on Dec. 2 in Chapel Hill.
Carolina earned the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and was ranked No. 5 in the final NSCAA poll of the year.
