CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Clint Gwaltney, one of the most prolific field goal kickers in University of North Carolina history, has been promoted to Director of Ticket Operations at his alma mater, Director of Athletics Dick Baddour announced today.
Gwaltney, 30, has worked in the UNC athletic ticket office since July 1995. He replaces Daren Lucas, who left the department to become Director of Ticket Operations for NASCAR in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Gwaltney is second alltime at UNC in field goals made with 43 and set the single-season record in 1990 when he made 21 of 27 field goal attempts. He held the career record until this season when Josh McGee established a new mark with 52.
The Greenville, S.C., native kicked at UNC from 1988-91 and is the seventh-leading scorer in school history with 211 points. He holds Carolina records for most consecutive extra points made (56) and most long-distance field goals (13 of 40 yards or more). He equalled the school record when he booted four field goals against Maryland in 1990.
In 1990, Gwaltney kicked a game-winning 50-yard field goal with 4:31 to play in a 16-13 triumph over Kentucky.
He was graduated from UNC in 1992 with a degree in business administration. He had an NFL tryout with the Houston Oilers before beginning his business career at Andersen Consulting. Gwaltney earned his master's in sports administration at Ohio University in 1995.
Gwaltney will be married in May 2000 to Ms. Jenifer Womble.
