For the third time this season, North Carolina freshman guard Joseph Forte has been named the ACC Rookie of the Week after scoring 40 points in two conference games. The Greenbelt, Md. product opened the week by hitting for 14 points, while grabbing four rebounds in UNC's 70-67 win at Florida State on Wednesday night. In that game, Forte also recorded four assists, including a helper on the Tar Heels' go-ahead basket by Jason Capel with less that minute to play in the contest.
Forte followed that performance on Saturday by scoring a game-high 26 points on 11-of-16 shooting while playing just a few miles from his hometown in North Carolina's road contest at Maryland. In that game, Forte was also a force on the defensive end of the court as he recorded two blocks and two steals to go along with his 26 points. On the season, Forte is the leading freshman scorer in the ACC with a 16.2 point per game average.
