Carolina Women's Golf Finishes Seventh At Lady Gamecock Classic

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. - North Carolina's women's golf team posted a seventh-place finish Sunday in the Lady Gamecock Classic at The University Club in Blythewood, S.C. Coach Sally Austin's team posted an 85-over-par total of 949 and finished three shots behind sixth-place Mississippi State University.
The Tar Heels were led in their effort by Marcy Newton, who tied for 10th place in the tournament with an overall score of 231. Newton recorded a 76 on Sunday as the Tar Heels had three players under 80 for the first time in the three-day tourney. Beth Lever carded a 78 and finished in a tie for 25th place at 237.
Duke captured the team championship, besting LSU by 19 strokes. Lisette Lee of the Tigers was the individual champion with a 220 score, two shots better than Young-A Yang of Tennessee.
The 54-hole event was played Sunday at The University Club which features a par 72, 5,996-yard layout.
