UNC Women's Golf Holds Fourth After Round One Of Bryan National Collegiate

Browns Summit, N.C. -- North Carolina's women's golf team is tied for fourth place with a 304 total after the first round of the Bryan National Collegiate. The Tar Heels were led by senior Marcy Newton, from High Point, N.C., who fired a one-over-par 73 and is tied for second place individually, just one shot behind Marta Prieto of Wake Forest.
Wake Forest leads the field of 15 teams with a 295 total. New Mexico and Ohio State are tied for second place at 303 while Mississippi State is tied with the Tar Heels in fourth place at 304.
Freshman Abby Spector fired the low round of her collegiate career posting a 75 and is tied for eighth place. Teammate Beth Lever posted a 76 and is tied for 15th place while Heather Angell carded an 80 and is tied for 50th place and Britta Olson is tied for 67th with an 83.
A trio of players are tied with Newton in second place at 73 - Lindsey Sims of William & Mary and Kelly Kirwin and Kathryn Brenny, both of Wake Forest. Ohio State's Lisa Strom and New Mexico's Britney Holt are tied for sixth place at 74.
The 54-hole event continues through Sunday and is being played at the Bryan Park Champions Golf Course which features a par 72, 6,237-yard layout.
