Carolina In Fourth Place After Two Days Of Tourney

BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. - Senior Marcy Newton sits alone atop the leaderboard as the North Carolina's women's golf team rests in fourth place with a 608 total after two rounds of the Bryan National Collegiate Bryan Park Champions. Indiana University leads the field of 15 teams with a 593 total followed by Wake Forest at 597 and Mississippi State University at 599.
Newton holds the individual lead with a total of 145 after two days (73-72). The High Point, N.C. senior's score of one over par is two shots better than Natalie Tucker of Indiana (78-69), Louise Wright of Florida State (75-72), Katherine Mowat of Louisville (75-72) and Kelly Kirwin of Wake Forest (73-74) who are locked in a four-way tie for second place with two-day scores of 147. Tucker's second round 69 was the only sub-70 score on the day.
In addition to Newton, Carolina's Abby Spector is also in the top 20 as she is tied for 15th place with a 151 total. Rounding out competition for the Tar Heels were Heather Angell who totals 155 after two days, Beth Lever at 157 and Britta Olson at 168.
The final round of the 54 hole event will be played Sunday beginning at 8:30 am with a shotgun start.
