UNC's Nikki Teasley
Q. What were your thoughts on today's game?
A. First of all, I want to say that UVA played an excellent game. They're a very good basketball team, with a great leader in Renee Robinson. I thought she did a great job. Fortunately, we were blessed to have players like LaQuanda Barksdale and myself to lead the team and step up when we needed to step up and keep the team together. I made a turn-over in the last minute and a half and right away I never dropped my head. I looked up the court and there was Juana (Brown), so we got it right back. That's what it takes to stay focused and concentrate. I'm proud of myself.
Q. Can you talk about last night? With you buying a ball from Walmart and how long did you shoot?
A. I got the ball at about 9:30pm and curfew was 11pm. So, I was out there until about 10:45pm. My brothers are here and they helped me by passing the ball to me. Actually, I bought 2 balls, they were on sale for $3.49. So, we were doing a 3 player, 2 ball drill. My brothers helped me out. I love them so much. Thank you guys. It really paid off.
Q. You took 11 shots in the 1st half and just 3 in the 2nd half. If you were shooting so well, why did you stop shooting?
A. I don't really know. In the 1st half, I was very aggressive. All I could think about was my shooting percentage from yesterday. In the 2nd half, I didn't feel like I had to score that much. My thing was to distribute the basketball. Actually I would rather pass than score myself.
Q. At the end of the game, you kind of gave a wave and blew some kisses to the UVA fans. Is it always special for you to play UVA?
A. I don't know what it is. UVA was recruiting me along with other ACC schools. Renee Robinson and I have been going at it for a long time. It just gets intense and I get caught up in the moment and get very motivated. The fans are hard to play against, also. I'm not going to have any hard feelings against anybody. It's a game of basketball and everybody wants to win
UNC's LaQuanda Barksdale
Q. What were your thoughts on today's game?
A. UVA played a great game. I want to give props to Nikki, too and also to Juana for setting those great screens and playing great defense.
Q. After UVA went to the zone in the 2nd half, did you find the lane a lot easier to navigate and what did you see that you could take advantage of?
A. I did find it easier to navigate. Nikki (Teasley) finds me wherever I am on the court. So, I give all the credit to her.
Virginia's Schuye LaRue
Q. How much did you sense UNC picking up its intensity on you in the last 10 minutes?
A. I didn't feel a change, it was tough defense the whole game.
Q. Do you think the team was uptight at all and want the game too much?
A. No, not really. I think we came out ready to play. We just didn't hit our key shots.
Virginia's Renee Robinson
Q. Did you feel like you were going to win the game after you hit that 3-pointer? Describe your emotions.
A. I did think that we were going to win. I just took a bad shot at the end of the game
Q. Your team had been trailing most of the game. In the last spurt near the end of the second half, things really turned up and your play was a big part in that. Can you talk about what your team was going through at that point?
A. We started attacking the basket. Carolina, a really great defensive team, over-played the passing lanes and they really don't see the help side. So, attacking the basket and driving was key. That's what got us back into the game.
