UNC Women's Golf Third After Day One Of ACC Championships

Clemmons, S.C. - The University of North Carolina's women's golf team stands in third place with a score of 319 after the first round of the ACC Women's Golf Championship. Returning ACC champion Duke leads the pack with a 295, and Wake Forest is in second with a 310.
Duke's Candy Hannemann is in first place with a two-under par 70. Duke's Beth Bauer is in second place with a one-over par 73. Wake Forest's Marta Prieto is in third place with a three-over par 75. Freshmen Abby Spector is leading the way for North Carolina with a four-over par 76, which positions her in a three way tie for fourth place. Carolina's Marcy Newton is tied for 11th shooting an 80. Other Carolina players finishing in the top twenty are Carolina's Heather Angell with an 81 in 13th place, Britta Olson in 14th place with an 82 and Beth Lever in 18th place with an 86.
Duke University is out to defend its long-standing title this weekend. Duke won the tournament in 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999.
The event is being played at the Salem Glen golf course in Clemmons, S.C., which features a par 72, 6,355-yard layout. The tournament continues through Sunday.
