MAY 18, 2000 - FORT MILL, SC
SECOND ROUND
#5 North Carolina 13, #9 Duke 7
NORTH CAROLINA HEAD COACH MIKE FOX
"I'm really happy for a win. I'm most proud about the way our team came out
and started the game. We didn't show any ill effects from the tough loss
yesterday. We seemed to have a bounce in our step and got off to a good
start. We swung the bat well today and a lot of balls found holes. We had
three of four guys who had a good day offensively."
"We had a fifth-year senior on the mound. We wanted Chris (Elmore) to finish the game. He was a warrior out there today. He scattered some hits, but he kept us in the game right until the end. "
On coming back from the tough loss--"If coaches knew the right words to say they would all say them. It is mostly on each player taking it upon themselves to wipe it away. I said a few things about my feelings on how you should play this game no matter what has happened previously. I think they took it upon themselves to come out and shake it off.
DUKE HEAD COACH BILL HILLIER
"Number-one we didn't come out and pitch real well to start the ball game.
The first hit of the game, the double by Greenberg was a big play. You have
to give Carolina credit. They played very well. They've got good pitching
,played good defense and obviously hit the ball well. That is a good ball
club."
