CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Thursday evening saw the completion of the first day of two-a-day practices for the Carolina football team. Shortly after 7:30 p.m. the Tar Heels wrapped up the afternoon practice session, and Head Coach Carl Torbush was pleased with what he saw.
Torbush: "I think they came back in excellent shape. I'm really excited about our freshman being able to adjust and adapt. We've thrown a lot at them in only one day. I'm excited about the tempo and the mental discipline they've got right now. Hopefully, we'll continue that the next two weeks to get ready for Tulsa.
"I felt like everything went the way I thought it would go because of the intensity and effort we had in the offseason to get ready for today."
Torbush also is excited with what he's seen from the offense under new offensive coordinator Mike O'Cain.
Torbush: "He's (O'Cain) very enthusiastic on the field, and I think our players have responded to him very well. They understand that he's not asking them to do anything he wouldn't do as a player or coach, and because of that I see a good tempo on offense right now.
"I'm excited about what we're doing on offense right now. For the first day and two practices, I think we got quite a bit in and will continue to get quite a bit in."
Ronald Curry looked sharp in practice Thursday, and Jamal Jones and Dominique Williams were also impressive with Jones making several nice catches and Williams breaking a few nice runs. Torbush seems especially pleased with Curry.
Torbush: "I feel like he's stepped right in and shown great poise and composure in the huddle especially not being able to be in the huddle this spring. I don't see where he's very much behind, if any. He's moving along very well."
