UNC Field Hockey Takes Temple Invitational Title.

PHILADELPHIA-Senior Kristen McCann scored four goals Sunday against Temple to lead the University of North Carolina field hockey team to a 6-1 win and its eighth consecutive Temple Invitational Tournament title. The Tar Heels are 5-0 heading into this weekend's home games against Old Dominion and Virginia.
McCann scored once on a penalty corner and three times from the field. The Tar Heels also got goals from junior Abby Martin (corner) and sophomore Lizzy Duffy (field). Assists came from senior Erin Cox, Martin, junior Stephanie Seery and senior Jana Toepel.
UNC defeated Iowa 5-0 on Saturday to advance to the tournament championship.
"This was a great weekend for our team," UNC coach Karen Shelton said. "We scored a lot of goals and passed the ball very well. I was also pleased with our defensive performances."
Temple's Virginia Gonzalez scored her team's only goal with 22:39 remaining in the first half to give the Owls a short-lived 1-0 lead.
The Tar Heels are back in action on Saturday when they host Old Dominion at 1 p.m. The game has been dubbed "Fan Appreciation Day". On Sunday, UNC hosts Virginia at 1 p.m. in the first Atlantic Coast Conference matchup of the season.
