UNC Doubles Team Advances at National Clay Courts

BALTIMORE, MD. - The doubles team of senior David Cheatwood (Fayetteville, N.C.) and Marcio Petrone (Meireles, Brazil) advanced Thursday in the main draw of the T. Rowe Price National Intercollegiate Clay Court Championships, the opening leg of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Grand Slam, hosted by the Suburban Club of Baltimore County, Pikesville, Md. The Tar Heel tandem won their first round doubles match Thursday over the duo of Homedes and Kanges of the University of Southern Mississippi, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.
The Carolina team will meet Erfan Djahangriri and Jean-Julien Rojer of UCLA Friday afternoon (not before 1:30 p.m.) in the doubles second round. The UCLA team earned an automatic spot in the main draw of the tournament while the North Carolina team had to win two matches in a qualifying tournament to merit its spot in the main draw.
