CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The University of North Carolina men's soccer team, ranked No. 7 in the nation this week in the NSCAA poll, won its seventh consecutive game on Wednesday night, shutting down Charlotte, 3-0, at Transamerica Field in Charlotte.
The Tar Heels, who shutout Georgia State and No. 18 South Florida last weekend in the adidas/Spartan Classic in Greensboro, have outscored their opponents 25-2 in their seven-game winning streak.
Junior forward Ryan Kneipper scored all three Carolina goals on the night. It was the first multi-goal game of Kneipper's career and the second hat trick posted by a Tar Heel in Carolina's last three games. Last Friday, freshman Marcus Storey scored three goals in UNC's 7-0 win over Georgia State.
Kneipper scored his first goal of the match off a Noz Yamauchi corner kick at the 37:44 mark of the match giving Carolina a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The game was close for the rest of the match, with the Tar Heels scoring two late goals to make it a 3-0 win. Kneipper scored his second goal off an assist from Storey with just under 13 minutes left in the match.
Kneipper scored his final goal when he headed a Danny Jackson assist into the Charlotte goal at the 83:11 mark.
Carolina improves to 11-2 on the season. Charlotte falls to 4-6-2. The Tar Heels will return to action on Sunday at 2 p.m. at NC State in Raleigh.
