Three Tar Heels Earn All-ACC Volleyball Team Honors

Three UNC outside hitters, junior Laura Greene, sophomore Nicole Reis and freshman Molly Pyles were named to All-ACC teams Wednesday's the ACC volleyball awards banquet. Reis and Greene made the first team , while Pyles was honored as a member of the All-Freshman team.
Greene, who won second-team All-ACC honors in 2000, is averaging 3.60 digs per game this season, which leads the Tar Heel squad and is second in the ACC. Greene is second on the team with 4.02 kills per game which ranks fourth in the conference. She reached the 1,000 kill milestone in 2001 and has recorded 1,035 for her career. Greene is also closing in on 1,000 career digs, as she has totaled 974 in her three seasons at UNC.
Reis leads the ACC with 4.44 kills per game, a mark which is fourth in season-bests all-time at UNC. She is third on the team and fifth in the ACC in digs with 2.97 per game. Reis also reached the 30-kill mark versus Maryland on Oct. 21.
Pyles leads all UNC freshmen in kills with 118 in 72 games (1.89 per game) and has also totaled 126 digs 40 blocks, 35 assists and 14 service aces this season.
Joining Greene and Reis on the first team are Georgia Tech's Maja Pachale, also named the player of the year, Ashley Harris of Duke, Wake Forest's Trina Maso de Mayo, and Josie Weymann of Duke.
The All-Freshman team is comprised of Pyles, Clemson's Lori Ashton, Georgia Tech's Lynette Moster, Virginia's Lily Phillips, NC State's Lindi Sheppard, Maryland's Alexandra Toregas and Georgia Tech's Lauren Sauer, who was also named Rookie of the Year.
Duke head coach Jolene Nagel was named the 2001 ACC Coach of the Year.
