Chapel Hill, NC - On Wednesday the Tar Heel men's tennis team will travel to Winston-Salem to battle the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. The Heels hold an 8-5 overall record and are 4-0 in ACC play after opening conference play with wins over Maryland, Virginia, NC State, and Florida State. The Deacons hold a 10-7 overall record and are 2-2 in the ACC. Wake's conference victories came over Maryland and Florida State.
The Tar Heels defeated the Deacons in Chapel Hill last season 6-1, but fell 5-2 the previous season in Winston-Salem.
The Tar Heel men have won the doubles point in their last seven matches and did not lose one doubles point in the entire month of March. Carolina is enjoying some individual success as well. Sophomore Trystan Meniane is currently 4-0 in ACC #4 singles and #3 doubles play and has won his last five matches in both singles and doubles. Senior David Cheatwood is also undefeated in ACC singles play with a 4-0 mark at the #3 slot. Cheatwood's parents are both alumni of Wake Forest and his father Phil played quarterback for the Deacon football team.
Carolina has three other players with winning records in ACC singles play. #2 Nicholas Monroe, #5 Greg Archer, and #6 Chad Riley all hold 3-1 records.
The Heels will most likely keep their same lineup from their victory over Florida State. Singles included #1 Marcio Petrone, #2 Nicholas Monroe, #3 David Cheatwood, #4 Trystan Meniane, #5 Greg Archer, and #6 Chad Riley. The doubles draw was #1 Cheatwood/Monroe, #2 Archer/Petrone and #3 Meniane/Riley.
