Wilkinson Named Academic All-District

Chapel Hill, N.C. - University of North Carolina women's lacrosse player Porter Wilkinson was named a second-team Academic All-District III choice on Tuesday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Wilkinson, a junior defender who has been named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference team in each of the last two seasons, was named to the Women's University Spring At-Large Team, which includes female athletes in all spring sports.
In the classroom, Wilkinson (Charlottesville, Va.) is an outstanding student who has been named to the ACC Honor Roll and UNC Dean's List in each of her three years at Carolina.
On the field, Wilkinson was a first-team All-America in 2000 and second-team choice in 2001. One of the top defenders in the ACC and the nation, she was named to the 2001 All-ACC team in April. Wilkinson has started 48 of the last 51 Tar Heel games over the last three seasons.
Carolina finished the 2001 season with a record of 11-7 and reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament before losing on May 13 to national runnerup Georgetown on the road. UNC was ranked No. 6 in the final IWLCA poll of the 2001 season.
