CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--University of North Carolina sophomore punter Blake Ferguson has decided to leave the Tar Heel football team, head coach John Bunting announced on Monday. He will not enroll at UNC this fall.
"I'm extremely disappointed and very surprised Blake did not want to be a part of our football program any longer," said Bunting. "He indicated to me that he wants to be closer to home and may move back to Oklahoma. I have confidence in John Lafferty as our starting punter."
Last year, Ferguson started eight games and punted 40 times for 1,475 yards, an average of 36.9 yards per punt.
