UNC Golfers Move Into Fifth Place at Mercedes-Benz

Knoxville, Tenn.-- The University of North Carolina completed the second round of golf at the 2002 Mercedes-Benz Women's Championship with a 611 total moving the Tar Heels into fifth place and just eight strokes off the lead. The University of Florida moved into a first place tie with the Swedish Jr. National Team with two day totals of 603. The University of Nevada Las Vegas and Auburn University round out the top five at 605 and 607, respectively. Once again the bright spot of the day for UNC was the performance of Junior Ashley Prange who fired a two-under-par, 70 which lands her in sole possession of first place with a two round total of 142. Amana Dick of the University of Florida moves into second place at 143. Other Tar Heels in action include Freshman Jose Shinn who comes in at 154, 12 strokes off the lead, Junior Meaghan Francella at 159, and Senior Meghan Adams and Senior Abby Spector at 161. The 54-hole event continues through Sunday and is being played at the Gettysvue Polo,Golf Country which features a par 72, 5,985-yard course.
