Chapel Hill, N.C. ------ University of North Carolina quarterback Darian Durant had successful surgery today on his right thumb that was fractured in Saturday's loss at Virginia. The surgery was performed at UNC Hospitals by Carolina's Director of Sports Medicine, Dr. Tim Taft and Dr. Don Bynum, a hand surgeon specialist. The doctors inserted two screws and one pin in the bone that was displaced in the injury.
"Darian's surgery went well and he's doing fine," Taft said. "The fragment of bone that was pulled off the extensor tendon was reattached and we expect an excellent recovery."
Durant is expected to be sidelined for at least six weeks.
