Tar Heels In The NFL
October 21, 2002 | Football
Dre Bly - Saint Louis Rams
ly helped the Rams secure a 37-20 win over the Seattle Seahawks by intercepting a Trent Dilfer pass in the fourth quarter. Bly's interception was one of two St. Louis interceptions in the game and the Bly's second of the season.
Alge Crumpler - Atlanta Falcons
Crumpler caught two passes for 36 yards in the Falcons 30-0 win over the Carolina Panthers. The second year tight end caught a 22-yard pass midway through the third quarter during an Atlanta drive that eventually led to a one yard T.J. Duckett touchdown run, putting the Falcons ahead 17-0.
Crumpler has caught 11 passes for 141 yards and one touchdown in Atlanta's first six games of the season.
Russell Davis - Arizona Cardinals
Davis recorded three solo tackles and one sack for the Cardinals in their thriller 9-6 overtime victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Davis sacked Cowboy quarterback Quincy Carter during Dallas' first overtime drive. It was his first sack of the season.
Bernardo Harris - Baltimore Ravens
Harris terrorized the Jacksonville Jaguars offense all day and recorded six solo tackles, three assists and one interception in the Ravens 17-10 victory.
The Ravens desperately needed improved play from its defense in the absence of Pro Bowl linebacker Ray Lewis, and Harris rose to the challenge. Sunday was only the second start for Harris, who joined the Ravens team this season after spending seven seasons with the Green Bay Packers.
William Henderson - Green Bay Packers
The Packers continued to look impressive as they rolled to a 30-9 victory over the Washington Redskins. The Packers are now 6-1 and are the dominant team in the NFC North, a division that also features Chicago (2-4), Detroit (2-4) and Minnesota (1-5).
Henderson contributed to the Packers victory by catching four passes out of the backfield for 32 yards. Henderson has only has one carry on the season from his running back position, but he has caught 10 passes for 80 yards and a touchdown.
Sedrick Hodge - New Orleans Saints
Hodge continues to play an important role on the Saints defense as he recorded four solo tackles in New Orleans' 35-27 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. The Saints are now 6-1 on the season and are first place in the NFC South.
Julius Peppers - Carolina Panthers
No Tar Heels in the NFL review would be complete without mentioning the phenomenal rookie sensation, Julius Peppers. On Sunday, Peppers was able to slam the Atlanta Falcons quarterback, Michael Vick, for his seventh sack of the season. Peppers continues to average one sack per contest despite being double-teamed by opposing offenses. Unfortunately, Peppers and the Panthers defense, did not get much help from their offense as Carolina fell 30-0 to the Falcons.
Week 8: Game of the Week
Atlanta (3-3) at New Orleans (6-1)
The week eight game to watch featuring former Tar Heels will take place in New Orleans as Sedrick Hodge and the 6-1 Saints face Alge Crumpler and the 3-3 Atlanta Falcons. Hodge and Crumpler, two former teammates while at Carolina, could face one another for the first time this season as linebacker and tight end, respectively.
