Tar Heels Look for Second Straight Win
The North Carolina men's soccer team will try to win its second consecutive game on Tuesday night when it hosts George Mason at 7 p.m. at Fetzer Field.
Carolina has not won back-to-back games in nearly a month (Virginina on Sept. 21 and Campbell on Sept. 24). Since beating Virginia and Campbell, the Tar Heels (9-5, 1-1 ACC) have alternated wins with losses, going 3-3 over their last six contests.
George Mason (6-3-2, 1-1-0 CAA) has lost two straight games at Old Dominion and at home against Maryland. The Terrapins beat the Patriots, 4-1, last Saturday night.
Bolowich Needs 1 Win to Tie Dorrance for Second-Most Wins in UNC History
Carolina head coach Elmar Bolowich is nearing the top of the all-time coaching wins list at UNC.
With a career record of 171-97-13 in this, his 14th season as the Tar Heel head coach, Bolowich needs one win to tie Anson Dorrance (172 wins) for second place on the list and four wins to pass Marvin Allen (174 wins) and take over first place.
Carolina vs. George Mason
George Mason leads the all-time series with Carolina, 2-1-1. All four prior meetings in the series were played in Fairfax, Va. The two teams tied in 1983, the Patriots beat the Tar Heels in 1985 and '86 and UNC beat GMU in 1987.
Crawford Approaching UNC's Single-Season Assist Record
Senior midfielder Matt Crawford enters the George Mason match with an ACC-leading 11 assists this season. The single-season UNC assist record is 15, set by Victor Suarez in 1994 and later tied by Michael Bucy in 2000.
The 11 assists are a career high for Crawford, whose previous best was eight in 2001.
