Tar Heels Headline Action in Final Day of Omni/ITA Mideast Region Championships

Chapel Hill, NC - Sunday marked the final day of action in the Omni Hotels/ITA Mideast Region Championships, hosted by the University of North Carolina's Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. Carolina's Trystan Meniane and Nicholas Monroe both played in the semifinal round of the singles draw, while the pair of Monroe and sophomore Daniel Pinchbeck played in the doubles finals.
Monroe and Pinchbeck fell short in their effort to advance to the ITA National Indoor Championships, losing to Zoltan Csanadi and Izak van der Merwe of Old Dominion 8-5 in the finals of the doubles draw.
In singles action, Meniane defeated Virginia Commonwealth's Florian Marquardt 7-6 (10-8), 6-4, to advance to the finals. With the win, Meniane receives an invitation to the ITA National Indoors, November 8-10, in Dallas, Texas. Meniane took on Georgia Tech's Roger Anderson in the final, after Anderson defeated Monroe 6-1, 6-2, in the semifinal round.
In the final, Meniane gave a valiant effort, but lost to Anderson 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. This marks the second consecutive year that the Georgia Tech senior from South Africa, currently ranked No. 20 in the nation, has won the Omni/ITA Mideast Regional.
